Chanel’s Spring-Summer 2024 Haute Couture Collection showcases the iconic Chanel code – the button. Recognizing the transformative power of buttons, Gabrielle Chanel revered them as a means for women to liberate themselves from constraints, allowing unhindered movement. She treated buttons akin to precious jewels, integrating them to imbue a daring and sparkling essence into the unique allure she both envisioned and crafted.
Virginie Viard, in a symbolic nod to emancipation, introduces the jewel-button into ballet and dance. This collection fuses fashion, music, theatre, and painting, forming a harmonious physical poetry where performers momentarily transcend the laws of nature, touched by grace and wonderment. The Spring-Summer 2024 Haute Couture collection pays homage to the eminent figures of dance, borrowing from their extraordinary style and the assertion of a triumphant body.
Reflecting on the significance of dance at Chanel, Virginie Viard shares, “I often think about dance, it’s an important theme at Chanel. The House is close to its institutions, to its choreographers and dancers, and we create costumes for the ballet. I have tried to bring together the power and finesse of bodies and clothes in a very ethereal collection, composed of tulle, ruffles, pleats and lace.”
