Johnny Depp and Dior are carrying on with their collaboration at a significant financial cost!
According to a report from Variety, the Pirates of the Caribbean actor has signed a new agreement with Dior that is worth more than $20 million. The mega-deal is the greatest deal for a men’s fragrance that has ever been done in the history of the industry. Before that, the record was held by the $12 million contract that Dior had with Robert Pattinson. Even after Dior was subjected to criticism when the actor was in the midst of legal issues, Depp has continued to collaborate with the company since 2015 when he was made the face of the Dior Sauvage fragrance.
Last year, the actor’s cooperation made headlines when one of the actor’s advertisements for Dior Sauvage aired primetime just one week after Depp emerged mostly triumphant in his defamation trial against his ex-wife Amber Heard. The case was brought against Depp by Amber Heard.
Both Johnny Depp and Amber Heard, 36, were found guilty of slander by a jury that consisted of five men and two women. However, the majority of the panel was on the side of the Pirates of the Caribbean actor. Damages totalling $10.35 million were granted to him, while the Aquaman actress received compensation of $2 million.
After the trial ended, Johnny Depp went on tour with guitarist and long-time friend Jeff Beck, who passed away in January at the age of 78. In the upcoming film Jeanne Du Barry, which will be presented in French, he will play the role of King Louis XV opposite Mawenn, who will also be directing and co-starring in the film. On May 16th, the film will make its world premiere at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival.
A high-profile appearance for Depp is scheduled to take place at the next Cannes Film Festival. On May 16, he will be present for the world premiere of Mawenn’s historical drama “Jeanne du Barry,” in which he plays the role of King Louis XV. The announcement of Depp’s new partnership with Dior comes at the same time. On May 17, he is scheduled to go to a dinner hosted by Dior, and then on May 18, he will travel to London to pay tribute to Jeff Beck at an event where Eric Clapton and Rod Stewart are also scheduled to perform. In addition, the Cannes market will mark the beginning of sales for Johnny Depp’s first directorial attempt in over 25 years. Al Pacino is one of the actors featured in the movie “Modi,” which is based on the life of the Italian artist Amedeo Modigliani (played by Riccardo Scamarcio) and focused on his career. The Veterans, a sales company, is pitching the film “Modi,” which will begin production in the fall.
The costly contract with Dior, which was arranged by Depp’s representatives at Range Media, might help pave the way for the actor’s return to movies from the leading studios, which had been reticent to work with him prior to the verdict in Virginia.
The house of Dior is yet to make an official statement on this deal.
