When it comes to our skin, we all want to be glowing. Yet so many of us don’t look after ourselves in order to do so. We often live unhealthy lifestyles, don’t use the right products, and we’re even finding ourselves more stressed out than ever before.
In 2023, that’s certainly the case. So, if you’re looking to improve your skin, here are our top five tips to get you glowing by the end of the year…
Follow a healthy diet
Eating a healthy and balanced diet can do wonders for your skin. Foods that are rich in vitamins and antioxidants, such as fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and lean proteins, can help to nourish and protect your skin. Try to limit your intake of processed and sugary foods, as these can cause inflammation and breakouts.
One of the most important things you can do for your skin is to stay hydrated. When you’re dehydrated, your skin can become dry, flaky and prone to wrinkles. Drinking plenty of water helps to keep your skin moisturised and plump, giving it a healthy and youthful appearance. Aim to drink at least 8 glasses of water per day, and more if you’re particularly active.
Give up the alcohol
And we don’t include alcohol in that hydration. Booze can be incredibly bad for the skin leading to dry skin wrinkles, duller skin and a greyer looking complexion. This is down to the toxins in alcohol and it’s one of the biggest factors in people struggling with their skin.
An alcohol detox is the first port of call, especially for heavy drinkers and those with alcohol abuse problems, and the difference over even a short period of time giving up the substance will be noticeable.
Protect your skin from the sun
Exposure to the sun’s harmful UV rays can cause premature ageing, sun damage, and skin cancer. Protect your skin by wearing sunscreen with at least SPF 30 every day, even in the winter months. You should also wear protective clothing, such as hats and long-sleeved shirts, and avoid prolonged exposure to the sun during peak hours.
Get plenty of sleep
Getting enough sleep is essential for healthy skin. When you’re sleep-deprived, your body produces more cortisol, a stress hormone that can lead to breakouts and inflammation. On the other hand, getting enough restful sleep can help to reduce inflammation and promote skin regeneration. Aim to get at least 7-8 hours of sleep per night.
Work on your skincare routine
Developing a good skincare routine is crucial for maintaining healthy skin. This should include cleansing, toning and moisturising your skin every day. Use products that are specifically formulated for your skin type and avoid using harsh, drying products that can strip your skin of its natural oils. You should also exfoliate your skin regularly to remove dead skin cells and promote cell turnover.
