Olga-Kornienko-Design-SCENE-Lika-Kalandadze-01

Designer eyewear is officially hot this season. Last year’s Spring Fashion Week showcased up and coming eyewear trends for the 2016 season and we were treated to a fabulous selection of stylish glasses and sun shades. Luckily you don’t need an eye prescription to carry off a gorgeous pair of designer glasses and nor does the sun need to be shining to rock a pair of designer shades. Here is a quick rundown of the latest styles available in a store near you. (Images: Olga Kornienko for Design SCENE Magazine by Lika Kalandadze)

Oversized Sunglasses

Celebrities are famous for their love of huge sunglasses, the idea being that the paparazzi can’t see them behind their shades. Victoria Beckham is rarely seen without a huge pair of oversized sunglasses. Choose the right pair and you, too, can look super cool. There are certainly lots to choose from, so take your pick and pretend to be a celeb travelling incognito.

Soft Pastel Frames

Pastel shades are the in-colour this year. According to the Pantone Colour Institute, rose quartz is the shade to be seen in. Pink is everywhere this season even the latest makeup trends, so make sure you accessorise your favourite summer outfits with a cool pair of pink glasses. Partial frames are very popular and many of the top celebrities have been snapped wearing transparent frames with tinted or mirror lenses. Dusky pink frames will work wonderfully with a spring wardrobe.

Pretty in pink may not be everyone’s choice, but if you want a gorgeous feminine look, look for glasses with pale pink frames. Other popular colours include duck egg blue, pale grey and natural taupe. You can even mix and match pastel shades, with different colour frames and arms.

Aviator Sunglasses

Aviator shades have been in fashion since Tom Cruise starred in Top Gun. He looked pretty hot, but with the right pair of shades, you can too. Aviators suit both men and women. Stella McCartney has designed some seriously funky reflective glasses, but you will also see some cute frameless designs. Look out for lots of futuristic styles, too.

Cat Eye Sunglasses

Cat eye sunglasses have been around for several seasons and they show no signs of losing their allure. The devil is in the detail this year and many of the top designs combine cat eye frames with round lenses. Look out for brightly coloured lenses as well as timeless black and white styles.

Circular Frames

Circular frames work well with glasses and sunglasses. Many designers have combined circular lenses with patterned or tortoiseshell frames. Bold patterns are a modem take on a classic design, so step outside of your comfort zone this year and ramp it up a little.

Kooky Shapes

Not everyone has the confidence to pull off irregular, kooky glasses, but if you do, they look fabulous. Star lenses and animal shapes are seriously weird and wacky, but we love them.

Whatever your personal style, there is a glasses trend out there for you. Invest in some designer frames this year. Go on, you know you want to.
